The Power Of Awareness Summary

In this book summary, you will learn the best lessons that could help you become more aware of your life.

So let’s get started.

Best Tools for Bibliophiles

Lesson #1: What you think about yourself matters a lot and shapes your life.

Your beliefs about Self define your life.

The author says that there is only one reality.

And that reality is consciousness.

Now there may be various ways you can define consciousness.

But simply put, it’s your awareness of yourself.

The more aware you are of yourself, the better your life will be.

The question is:

How to know what we think of ourselves?

The trick is to simply fill in the blank below:

I am _______________.

You become whatever you put inside that blank space.

Let me explain.

If you say, “I am a peaceful person,” then, believe it or not, you will try to find opportunities that prove your statement right.

You will tend to attract situations that would further make this belief stronger.

If you say, “I am poor .” Then your perception will become such that you will only see scarcity everywhere.

But what you need in life is an abundance mindset.

Feeling poor won’t help you in any way. Instead, you should focus on the talents that you already have.

This will motivate you and help you learn skills you don’t have right now.

If we dig this lesson a bit deeper and talk about Spirituality, we are more than just a body that has needs to be fulfilled.

We are the consciousness that pervades the universe.

Our body keeps changing with time. What doesn’t change is our awareness, our consciousness.

Most popular scriptures, that’s why ask us to think about higher levels of consciousness.

If you are only focused on satisfying your senses, you ignore a huge possibility of rising to the higher levels of consciousness.

Also, you are making yourself finite while having an infinite nature.

That’s a waste of potential, isn’t it?

We all are capable of doing great things in our lives.

But since we have made wrong concepts in our minds, we fail to accomplish big things.

So always be aware of what you think of yourself.

If a man’s concept of himself were different, everything in his world would be different.

~Neville Goddard

Lesson #2: We all have the same mind, but the content differs.

So we all have a concept of who we are, what we like, and what we don’t like.

Everyone has a mind.

Surprisingly, the mind is the same — no matter whose mind it is.

Now you might ask:

Why do we have different opinions if we all have the same mind?

The reason is:

Although we all have the same mind, the content inside the mind is different.

Our thoughts are the content of the mind.

And if you observe it carefully, what we speak to ourselves becomes our thoughts.

Since we all are stuck in different situations and have different environments, we have different thoughts.

Think of your mind as a cup.

We all have the same cup, but it’s up to you what you put in that cup.

You may put tea in it. You may put water.

It will depend on the person holding that cup.

If you are smart and your cup is already filled, you will tend to empty it first.

You can’t put something in the cup if it’s already filled with something in the same way you can’t put the correct information in your mind if you are already occupied with unnecessary thoughts.

Ultimately, you will find that you attract more what you are conscious about.

You can’t deliberately feed your mind with wisdom if you are not conscious of yourself.

Again, the author says that consciousness is the one and only reality.

That means that consciousness is the same everywhere. How conscious you are of your mind and your Self determines the quality of your decisions in your life.

Lesson #3: The first step to developing yourself is having a desire to change.

Nothing will change in you for good if you don’t desire to change yourself.

Sure, you can tell other people that you are on your journey of self-improvement.

You can fill your mind with lots of information. You can read tons of self-help books.

But unless you have the desire to bring real change, you won’t change.

That’s the bitter truth.

Most people keep deluding themselves.

They pretend that they have the desire to change.

But if you look at their everyday life, you will find that the desire to change is missing.

Deep inside, they don’t like change.

Guess what happens?

It’s obvious, they stay at the same level. They don’t improve in reality.

For example:

Many people would like to start their own business. But they never take any step.

Deep down, they are afraid of taking risks that come with the business.

So they keep giving excuses.

They don’t see themselves running a business.

And if they do, they don’t believe that they can turn their imagination into reality.

There is one thing you should keep in mind, though:

Desire is just the first step. Don’t expect magic once you have a desire to do something big.

But why are we discussing so much about desire?

You should be aware or conscious enough about your desire if you are serious about manifesting them.

Desires may come and go.

Once you become conscious about a desire, you may start working on it.

Lesson #4: Your ability to choose is one of your biggest powers.

No matter how bad your situation is, you always have the power to choose.

You can decide whether you wish to fight or flee.

Most people choose to flee.

They think that they are not in control.

They think that they have no option to change their circumstances.

They believe that their lives are the result of life not wanting them to succeed.

But the reality is:

We can always choose.

The power of choice is always available — only if you know how to use it.

The mindset of being helpless is a problem.

Do you lack money? Find opportunities. There are plenty.

Do you lack health? Do some exercise or find a trainer.

Do you lack opportunities? Think again.

Even not thinking about thinking is a choice.

The key here is to take responsibility for our life.

We have so many abilities using which we can achieve our goals.

Sure, things don’t always happen as we expect them to.

But again, we can choose whether to play the victim or become a hero.

Playing the victim is easy. That’s why most people do it.

Becoming a hero and overcoming your weaknesses and setbacks is tougher.

So naturally, most people choose the easy option.

Note that they are not really victims. They have chosen to be in the situation they are in.

Why? Because they didn’t try hard enough to change it.

To become the best version of yourself, you have to first choose. You have to choose that you don’t want to be in the same situation anymore.

And imagine yourself becoming better.

That’s the start.

Your life is determined by the choices you make.

You can stop growing if you want right now. Or you can keep learning and reach higher states of consciousness.

It’s your choice!

Lesson #5: You don’t need free will to realize your goals once you make your choice.

This is a bit confusing, right?

Allow me to explain.

The author talks about why we don’t need to do anything to realize our goals in one chapter.

If you have the correct assumptions or the right beliefs, you will automatically realize your goals sooner or later.

At first, this sounds like a gimmick that self-help writers often use in their books.

But the key idea here is:

Our beliefs or assumptions guide us.

If you want something badly, your actions will be such that you reach your goals.

Sure, it may take time. Maybe it would take years. Or perhaps you realize your dreams in a few days.

Nothing can be said for sure. It depends on a lot of factors.

If you are not deliberately taking action in the right direction, no amount of assumptions or beliefs will help you.

The author says that thinking that you have free will after making a choice and seeing your wish fulfilled is a delusion. And you don’t need to do anything special to realize your vision.

But I kind of disagree with the author here.

I would suggest that you choose to think that you have free will at every moment of your life. And only by taking action can you realize your goals.

Otherwise, you will have to believe what the author says, which I found pretty confusing.

The Power Of Awareness Quotes

Here are some of the notable quotes from this book:

Your nature is such that it is optional to you whether you remain in your present concept of yourself or choose to become the instrument of your own redemption.

~Neville Goddard

You are limited only by your uncontrolled imagination and lack of attention to the feeling of your wish fulfilled.

~Neville Goddard

You, by your concept of yourself, determine your present and your future.

I have mixed feelings about this book.

An average person would struggle to understand the ideas discussed in this book.

You can imagine that I’ve been writing stuff online about personal development for more than two years. And still, I found it confusing.

The book is about awareness.

So the author begins this book by discussing consciousness.

Then he starts talking about assumptions. After that, he starts talking about imagination.

And then he starts talking about free will.

So throughout the entire book, the author keeps jumping from one topic to another.

But he doesn’t go too deep into any subject and doesn’t explain how we can apply the ideas discussed in the book.

This book is more about believing in a particular opinion without looking at reality.

I won’t recommend this book to someone new to the self-help department.

Overall, it was an excellent book to read.

If you are going to read this book, I’d suggest that you keep your expectations low.

This was my overall opinion about this book.

You might find this book fascinating. It depends on how you think.

The Pros

  • Talks about Consciousness.
  • Can be read quickly in 2 hours.
  • A few examples are good.

The Cons

  • Not so practical.
  • Hard to understand.
  • Doesn’t talk about anything new. (Just usual self-help stuff.)
  • The case studies at the end don’t sound real.

Rating

Rating based on my opinion: 5/10
