In this book summary, you are going to get answers to some of these questions:

  • Why do we feel that there isn’t enough of anything in this world?
  • Why most people are not happy with their lives?
  • Why money is a bad master, but a great tool?
  • Why most relationships are based on possessiveness and filled with expectations?
  • Why is it essential not to look away from your ugly thoughts and feelings?
  • What is good parenting? What should parents teach their kids and how?

So without further ado, let’s dive right in!

Lesson #1: Stop carrying the beliefs of scarcity. There is enough for all of us.

Most people think that there are only limited resources or opportunities in the world.

And if someone gets a part, others have to lose.

But the author says that instead of thinking that this world is scarce, we must operate from a center of abundance.

Why is this important?

This is important because it makes us sad unnecessarily.

We always feel that we are losing out on something if the other has it.

It could be anything.

You may think that if someone got a high-income job, others must be unlucky. They will struggle to get rich.

But that’s not the case.

People who operate with an abundance mindset see opportunities everywhere.

They don’t become jealous when they see their friends or relatives becoming successful.

Instead, they become happy.

You see, jealousy comes when we think that there is not enough for everyone.

The author talks about our connection with God.

He says that when God and we are one, and we are complete already, then we can let go of the scarcity mindset.

The question is:

Where do we get these kinds of beliefs that make us see competition in everything?

The thing is:

We all get our opinions and ideas from people with who we grow.

In most cases, these people include our friends and relatives.

They pass on their beliefs, and we accept them without questioning them.

Sadly, most people have a scarcity mindset. That’s why you see every person is struggling to get his share and thinks that we can’t get an equal share of resources.

That’s also why some people are wealthy and don’t care about money.

On the flip side, some people can barely maintain their livelihood.

The greatness of this idea is not limited to the objects in the world.

It’s also valid for intangible things like happiness, joy, freedom, etc. These things are priceless.

Anybody can have these things if he realizes his connection with God and sees clearly that no worldly object can complete him.

We are already complete, to begin with.

With that said, let’s move on to the other lesson.

Lesson #2: “Don’t make other people the source of your happiness.”

The author says multiple times that we should never make other people the source of our happiness.

The problem with that is:

No person can make you complete as you are already complete.

Only our delusional way of seeing reality makes us think we need something to make ourselves whole.

That’s because we don’t see the God within.

Well, I’m not sure about this.

But we all have something within that is infinite in itself.

Let me explain with an example:

Imagine you have an ocean within yourself.

Imagine how funny it’d be if you were expecting a glass of water from other people without considering the vast ocean within yourself.

Everybody thinks that the other person will quench their thirst.

It’d be crazy, right?

An intelligent person would never bother whether other people give him a glass of water or not.

Now, transfer the same concept to happiness.

We make other people the source of happiness.

And guess what happens? We never become delighted.

We search and search for years, but nothing happens.

No person can make you fully happy.

The wise thing is to search within.

Raise your consciousness and see that what you are looking for outside is already within you.

And if you believe in God, think that God has already given you enough.

Don’t act in this world expecting things from other people.

Try to give more than you can take.

Operate with abundance.

The best part is:

If you act with an abundance mindset, all those things that you desire will tend to come towards you.

I once read that “you attract who you are.”

The author also says that “your beliefs create your reality.”

Lesson #3: Face your discomforting feelings and become comfortable with them.

Do you know why most people never look within?

Because it’s very hard.

There are many ugly things in our minds that we are afraid of.

Right?

Truth is discomforting!

But as long as we will keep running away from our discomforting emotions or feelings, we will keep rejecting the truth.

And as a result, our consciousness will never grow higher.

Although it’s hard initially, it’s essential to face our thoughts.

They might be scary. They might be ugly.

You might even go to great lengths to avoid them.

But they are there sitting right there in your head.

So no matter how hard you try, you can’t run from them.

They will be there.

The best thing is to face them.

Acknowledge them!

Once you do that, you will realize that your thoughts can’t really do much.

It’s You who gives them power.

You are the source. You are a part of God, says the author.

When you see this reality, your thoughts can’t overpower you anymore.

Here, when we say God, we mean the power flowing within you.

You are the consciousness that is behind every living object in this Universe.

Without it, your thoughts have no power. They can’t even exist.

The author believes that we are the essence of everything that does not die.

Imagine how much power we have within us.

We are not just our body or mind. We are the consciousness that pervades this Universe.

But note that:

You don’t have to use this realization to feed your ego.

The end goal is to keep raising your consciousness or awareness. And feeding ego is the opposite of that.

Remember, ego makes you blind.

It’ll become a hindrance and stop you from seeing the reality.

The ego separates you from reality.

While the heightened consciousness makes you see reality as a whole.

Ego makes you ignorant.

And sadly, most people in this world are not enlightened beings.

They carry their wrong beliefs and spread them among other people.

And that’s why many people face low self-image issues.

Let’s talk about this problem in detail.

Lesson #4: Your low self-image is the result of your lack of understanding of Consciousness.

Most people have a low self-image of themselves.

And it’s also very common with people who have some kind of defect in their body.

For example: If you are fat, you might never feel confident in your clothes.

You will fear what others think about you.

Right?

We are always conscious about what other people would think of us.

Instead, we should be more conscious of the answer of “who am I?”

The problem is:

People have no idea about consciousness.

Put simply, an average person has no idea about philosophy.

Even philosophers struggle to find the answer to the question, “what is our purpose of being here?”

The author believes that there is only one purpose: “To be.”

Back to the question, how do we deal with self-image issues?

The key is to understand what consciousness is.

Most religions believe that we are the spirit of God that is always there.

It’s like the law of energy conservation that we study in Physics class.

“Energy can neither be created nor destroyed.”

But it may change in form.

When we think that we are our bodies, there is always separation. We never think of other people as the same being.

And when we think that we are our minds, it leads to ignorance again.

At the level of mind, there is always separation and ego.

The mind can’t think without dividing.

But spiritually, the author says that we all are the same as God.

In short:

There is no point in worrying about what other people think of us.

The essence of all human beings is the same.

Our thoughts about ourselves are nothing.

What other people think about it will change with time as well.

Why bother about something that has a very short lifespan?

Are you getting the point?

It doesn’t matter if you are beautiful or ugly. Your self-image must not be based on your material body.

Spiritually, we are the same.

Correct your wrong self-image about yourself.

It’s ignorance to judge someone based on his body or wealth.

Instead, we must enlighten such people with the proper knowledge and help them raise their consciousness.

Lesson #5: Good relationships can’t be built without embracing spirituality.

Bad relationships are ubiquitous these days.

We all have our differences, right?

Not really!

This is all because most of us are not spiritually enlightened people.

By “enlightened,” I mean that we have a very low consciousness.

We don’t understand our reality.

Most people live without a purpose.

And therefore, many relationships are nothing more than accidents.

This is because most people who enter into relationships don’t understand themselves.

“They carry their insecurities and mistaken beliefs into their relationships,” says the author.

And what do you expect?

There is a lot of misunderstanding.

How could a person find the right partner for himself if he doesn’t know what he is and what exactly he wants out of his life?

What lies inside most people’s minds are wrong notions about this world.

They worry about things that don’t even matter in the long run.

Unfortunately, important issues are always ignored.

There are two reasons for this:

First, we don’t know that we are spiritual beings.

Second, we don’t want to accept the truth that ‘we don’t know.’

Always remember that your relationship with your spiritual self determines the quality of your relationships with other people.

If you don’t know that you are one with God, how will you help the other people realize this truth?

Seek more knowledge about spirituality and deepen your understanding.

Lesson #6: The goal of any parent must be to raise the consciousness of his child.

Our lack of knowledge of the spiritual self also affects the parent-child relationship.

Usually, you will see a game being played in these sorts of relationships.

“Which game?”

The game of expectations and possessiveness.

So whoever has more control considers himself a winner.

Parents think that they are right.

And children believe that their parents don’t know anything.

Both parents, as well as the child, has their own set of beliefs.

And those beliefs keep clashing all the time.

As a result, the relationship suffers, and the quality keeps reducing over time.

Doesn’t this happen?

The author shows concern about how parents think that their children are helpless and can’t do anything independently.

In the name of helping, all they do is impose their wrong beliefs or opinions onto their children.

It’s an endless cycle!

Those same kids then grow up. And do the same to their children.

The question is:

Is this an excellent example of parenting?

Obviously not!

You see, any action done without keeping the truth in mind is wrong.

By truth, I mean knowing about our spiritual essence.

Without being spiritual, one can’t see the truth.

We are surrounded by deceptions all the time.

And everybody believes that he is right. So the experiencer is always in delusion.

The goal must be to align ourselves with the truth and be in harmony with our spiritual selves.

“Good parenting is about raising the consciousness of children,” says the author.

A good parent must bring the child closer to the truth and be able to see the truth himself.

A spiritually enlightened person sees no boundaries.

There are indeed boundaries in this world. We are separated by bodies, by nations, by beliefs, etc.

But the essence is always the same.

It’s the only reality that doesn’t change with time.

Concepts may come and go. People may come and go, but that timeless reality — that we are one with God never changes.

And always remember: Don’t use this idea of ‘being one with God’ to feed your ego.

Use it to get rid of your ego.

Lesson #7: Never let money become your master.

Money has an essential role in our lives.

But even though we all need money, it could never become our master.

And those who let money run their lives will never be fully satisfied with their lives.

Their search for happiness or joy will never come to an end.

The fact is:

For a majority of people, money is hard to earn.

So we put it on a pedestal and believe that if we only had more money, all of our problems would be solved.

But do they?

In reality, this doesn’t happen.

If your only purpose is to earn money in life, then you are rejecting other non-material things like happiness, joy, inner peace, etc.

Those who let money control their lives become more deluded as there is no limit to how much you can earn in your entire life.

The author quotes from the Bible that you should first seek the kingdom of God. And then the rest of the things will come to you.

But now the question is: “What does the kingdom of God mean?”

Based on my understanding, I believe that the kingdom of God is within each of us.

Once we see that no material object can fully satisfy us, our hunt for fulfillment in the outside world is meaningless. We should all start looking within each of us spiritually and raise our consciousness to higher levels.

And when you become spiritually enlightened, you stop chasing money blindly.

“Do you stop earning money and go to the Himalayas to attain some inner peace?”

No, you still live like others, but you understand your reality that you can take charge of your life, and no worldly object holds power to control you.

You earn money, sure. But you don’t let it become your master.

Your decisions, beliefs, and thoughts come from a center where you are fully conscious of yourself.

Nobody knows what God looks like.

That’s why it’s essential to see what God doesn’t look like.

The key here is to start rejecting ideas or old concepts that have no connection with reality, don’t grow your consciousness, and sometimes even delude you.

Put simply, look deeper within your mind.

Realize that you are a conscious being. This is what makes humans different from other species.

Maybe you will realize that all life has the same essence. And we are all the same spiritually, despite our different looks.

Money is a great tool but a bad master.

Being a spiritual seeker myself, I enjoyed reading this book a lot.

The best thing about this book is that the author doesn’t say illogical statements.

She tries her best to stick to the real stuff and doesn’t force the reader to believe her ideas.

The only thing I didn’t like about this book is that there is so much repetition, not in a particular chapter but throughout the book.

The book revolves around a single idea that you should be spiritual and seek the kingdom of God within you. It’s not a bad thing, though.

From my experience, I can tell that it’s tough to talk about God when you don’t know anything.

Most ideas shared by the author come from religious scriptures from various religions.

People who don’t like the idea of God won’t be able to digest this book easily.

I’m somewhere in the middle.

Because I simply don’t know what to say here.

Overall, it was a great read.

I don’t recommend this book to beginners.

Only spiritual seekers who have a little bit of knowledge of basic science should read this book.

Why? Because most people may misinterpret the meaning of what the author has said about the universal spirit.
